Barricaded situation involving escaped inmate Joshua Zimmerman continues in Chicago, Illinois on August 21, 2024. Escaped inmate Joshua Zimmerman from Mississippi is barricaded inside of a restaurant on Chicago's Near West Side which started Tuesday evening according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Joshua Zimmerman is wanted for murder and armed robbery. Joshua Zimmerman escaped from the DeSoto County Circuit Court Building in Mississippi on June 14 and is barricaded at 2325 West Madison Street, surrounded by the Chicago SWAT team, the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI is also on scene. Zimmerman is alone in the restaurant, and no innocent civilians are present.

33-year-old man shot multiple times in the face and arms and pronounced dead in Chicago, Illinois on August 19, 2024. At approximately 10:23 pm, Monday evening on the 4800 block of W. West End Avenue, Chicago police officers responded to a ShotSpotter call and found a 33-year-old man on the ground, he had been shot multiple times in the face and arms. The victim was treated on scene, transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There are no suspects in custody. On the first night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention, several homicides were reported in the City of Chicago, the host city of the DNC.
