Police are searching for a man who chased a group of girls Wednesday evening as they walked home from school in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The girls were walking about 5:05 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Ohio when the suspect started following them, according to an alert from Chicago Police. After he gave chase, the girls ran off.

A person was injured in a fire late Thursday at an apartment building in west suburban St. Charles. Fire crews responded at 10:39 p.m. to a fire alarm at the Carroll Towers at 200 North Second Street, according to the St. Charles Fire Department. When they arrived, crews found a fire in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment where a female resident was trapped.
A 21-year-old Mount Prospect man is facing charges that he killed and tried to conceal the death of a man found inside a burning vehicle last week in the northwest suburban village. Paul A. Zalewski was charged with felony counts of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death in the case, according to a statement released Thursday by Mount Prospect police.
Skokie police have removed a car that crashed into a Best Buy Thursday morning. Police said the burglary took place at 3:17 a.m. at the Best Buy at 5425 Touhy Ave. A silver Toyota went through the front doors and wound up all the way inside the store and police said they are investigating a burglary.
Niles North High School in north suburban Skokie was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after receiving a threat, police said. said they are working to determine the credibility of the threat. No injuries were reported. Police did not comment on the nature of the threat or how it was made.
