A garage was destroyed and a home was damaged after a fire broke out Wednesday night in north suburban Evanston. Firefighters responded about 6:20 p.m. to reports of a fire in the detached garage in the 600 block of Ridge Avenue, according to the Evanston Fire Department.
A man was assaulted early Thursday in the Hermosa neighborhood on the West Side. Police responded to reports of a man with a laceration to his face caused by shattered glass about 12:43 a.m. in the 1600 block of N. Tripp, Chicago Police said. The man, 44, was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in good condition, police said.
A person was found dead in a home after firefighters extinguished a fire Wednesday afternoon in south suburban Flossmoor. About 12:45 p.m., emergency crews responded to a residential fire in the 2000 block of Collett Lane, the Flossmoor Fire Department said. After putting out the fire and searching the home, firefighters found a deceased male in the lower level, the department said.
A man was shot Wednesday afternoon in the Homan Square neighborhood on the West Side. About 4:30 p.m., the 23-year-old was approached and shot by an unidentified person in the 3700 block of West Arthington Street, Chicago Police said.

A man was stabbed early Wednesday in the the Loop. The 39-year-old man was stabbed in the arm when a fight with someone he knew turned physical about 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of South Clark, Chicago Police said.
Two men were critically wounded in a shooting Tuesday night in the Old Town neighborhood on the Near North Side. The men, ages 23 and 24, were walking about 8:20 p.m. in the 400 block of West Blackhawk when they heard gunfire and realized they’d been shot, according to Chicago Police. The younger man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body, while the older man was shot in the upper left leg and right arm.
A man was stabbed at a party early Wednesday in the Douglas Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 20-year-old man was stabbed in the shoulder after getting into a fight with one other person at the party about 2 a.m. in the 1500 block of S. Fairfield, Chicago Police said.

A man armed with an AR-15 rifle stopped an attack by one of his neighbors and held him until police arrived. It happened Monday at an apartment building on Harbor Drive in Oswego Township.
Police are investigating the cause of a fatal crash Sunday night in west suburban Naperville. Police and firefighters responded about 7:10 p.m. Sunday to reports of a single vehicle crash on 87th Street and Modaff Road, Naperville police said. Jason Schaus, 41, of Naperville, was traveling westbound on 87th Street when his 2013 Mercedes Benz CLS63 left the road and struck a tree, police said.
A woman was carjacked at gunpoint Monday night in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 27-year-old woman was in her gray 2016 Nissan Maxima when a male approached, showed a handgun and forced her out of her car about 11:10 p.m. in the 6200 block of South Albany, Chicago Police said.

A Chicago police officer shot and seriously wounded a man Sunday evening after a traffic stop in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the Southwest Side. Officers pulled over a Dodge Magnum about 8 p.m. just south of 43rd Street on Ashland Avenue. The stop was part of a narcotics investigation, according to police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

Two Mundelein High School students were arrested Sunday for allegedly making threats against the school on social media, authorities said. School officials said that a student posted a photo of a handgun on Snapchat with the caption, "Mundelein ain't ready for this."
A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the killing of a 51-year-old woman who was found dead Saturday morning after suffering head trauma in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. At 8:11 a.m., officers found the woman suffering from head trauma in the 6600 block of South Minerva, according to Chicago Police. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

One person was injured in a rollover crash early Sunday in south suburban Harvey. The crash occurred about 10:15 p.m. in the 14500 block of Jefferson Avenue. It appears the vehicle rolled over and struck a tree.
A man was shot and killed Saturday night in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. About 8:40 p.m., the 27-year-old was shot multiple times in the upper body in the 1100 block of West 65th Street, according to Chicago Police.

Police are searching for a man who chased a group of girls Wednesday evening as they walked home from school in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The girls were walking about 5:05 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Ohio when the suspect started following them, according to an alert from Chicago Police. After he gave chase, the girls ran off.

A person was injured in a fire late Thursday at an apartment building in west suburban St. Charles. Fire crews responded at 10:39 p.m. to a fire alarm at the Carroll Towers at 200 North Second Street, according to the St. Charles Fire Department. When they arrived, crews found a fire in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment where a female resident was trapped.
A 21-year-old Mount Prospect man is facing charges that he killed and tried to conceal the death of a man found inside a burning vehicle last week in the northwest suburban village. Paul A. Zalewski was charged with felony counts of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicidal death in the case, according to a statement released Thursday by Mount Prospect police.
